General Weakness

Some of the weaknesses observed in the candidates’ scripts are:

- Poor preparation for the examination. This was observed in candidates’ poor responses to questions, showing inadequate knowledge of the subject. For example, candidates missed up the meaning of Branding and Packaging;.

- Poor knowledge of examination techniques, some candidates still answered two questions or more on the same page, making the marking difficult;

- Insufficient knowledge of the subject, as a result they could not satisfactorily attempt questions on features of a department store and insurance terminology which were on questions 4 and 5 respectively;

- Few candidates attempted questions on calculations in which they did not do well.

SUGGESTED REMEDIES

  1. The candidates should endeavour to learn the rules of English grammar so as to enable them express their points clearly.

(ii) The candidates should be encouraged to study standard and comprehensive textbooks in their preparation for the examination rather than relying on key-points.
(iii) The teachers should thoroughly teach the candidates the aspect of the syllabus that deals with calculation of profit and capital.
(iv) Government should endeavour to recruit qualified Business Education graduates to teach the subject.
