Explain any five of the following form of civic society:
(a) Pro-democracy groups
(b) Labour groups
(c) Professional groups
(d) Religious groups
(e) Student groups
(f) Gender based groups
(g) Human right groups
Observation
This question was attempted by majority of the candidates and their performance in this question was bad. They were able to interpret the questions and give points. Additional points candidates missed out are:
- FORMS OF CIVIL SOCIETY:
- Pro-democracy groups – They work for the establishment and promotion of democratic principles. Their goal is to ensure that democracy works in a country and people enjoy its dividend. E.g Campaign for democracy (CD).
- Labour groups – This is made up of workers unions who are members of a society’s labour union such as Nigerian labour congress and Trade union congress e.t.c.
- Professional Association – These are bodies of professional groups coming together to fight for the interest of their members and the good of the society. e.g. NBA, NMA, ASUU e.t.c.
- Human right group – They aim at ensuring that every citizen enjoys his/her fundamental rights as fully entrenched in the constitution. E.g. BBOG, T.I, Human Rights Watch, WOTCLEF etc
- Religious groups – These are religious organizations fighting for the cause of the masses and good governance e.g. CAN, Supreme for Islamic Affairs.
