Question 4

(a) Draw, to a scale of 1:25, the detail of section B-B through the lounge from the concrete floor slab to ceiling.

(b) To a scale of 1:10, draw the detail of the glazed aluminium sliding window at section B – B and indicate the following:
(i) reinforced concrete lintel;
(ii) mild steel reinforcing bars;
(iii) aluminium frame;
(IV) glass pane;
(V) track.

OBSERVATION

Few candidates who responded to this question were able to show the:

-  concrete floor slab with mortar screed finish in section;
-  glazed aluminium sliding window in elevation;
-  sandcrete blockwall in section;
-  partial view of the panel door in elevation;
- reinforced concrete lintel in section.

However, the candidates were unable to:

- construct the semi-circular arch in elevation;
-  show the timber noggins at the ceiling;
-  draw the wall with rendering/plastering on both sides;
-  show the mild steel reinforcement bars in the concrete lintel in section;
- dimension the detailed drawing properly;
-  show the track in which the glazed window slides;
-  show the rubber bead used to secure the window glass pane in place.
