CANDIDATES' WEAKNESSES AND SUGGESTED REMEDIES

 

The observed weaknesses of the candidates include:

  • wrong and poor spellings of biological names, technical terms;
  • inability to present points in a coherent order;
  • poor interpretation of the graph on predator-prey relationship in question 3;
  • poor drawing of the DNA molecule;
  • inability to correspond answers on the table;
  • inability to state the reasons why a spider is not an insect;
  • inability to state structure and function of structure in adaptation questions;
  • inability to state the source of the gases involved in photosynthesis on a sunny day;
  • inability to state the reason a newborn baby’s food is in liquid form;
  • inability to state the relationship between functions of a tongue and nose.

 

The following remedies were proffered to overcome the weaknesses:

  • candidates should study topics on adaptation and ecology properly;
  • standard text books should be used to study;
  • candidates should coverthe syllabus before taking the examinations;
  • candidates should improve on their written English
  • candidates should try as much as possible to spell properly;
  • candidates should read and understand a question properly before attempting it;
  • candidates should read and adhere to instructions
  • candidates should study past questions and Chief Examiner’s Report;
  • candidates should avoid copying answers;
  • the general principles and terms used in Biology should be studied with practical examples.
