(a) State the function of each of the following electrical circuits:
- starting;
- charging
- ignition;
- lighting.
(b) State the reason for the use of fuse in a vehicle electrical system.
(c) Explain why starter motor cables are made thick and short.
(d) State the purpose of high rate discharge tester.
Observation
Most of the candidates who attempted this question did very well in parts (a), (b) and (c) of the question. The only problematic part was part (d) of the question. The required response to part (d) is:
(d) High rate discharge tester is used to test the ability of a battery to meet the required load. OR
To enable the potential difference of each cell to be determined.
