Fig. 4 shows the front elevation of a hexagonal prism side 25 with a hole diameter 30. Draw full size, the following:
- given elevation;
- plan;
- end elevation;
- true shape on plane X – X
A TRUNCATED HOLLOW HEXAGONAL PRISM
Candidates were expected:
(a) PLAN
(i) draw the hexagonal plan;
(ii) draw the inner hole Ø30;
(iii) divide the circle into 8 or 12 equal parts;
(iv) hatch.
(b) GIVEN ELEVATION
(i) project from the plan to draw the elevation;
(ii) draw the inner hole Ø30;
(iii) indicate the cutting plane X – X at 300 to the horizontal
(c) END ELEVATION
- project from the plan and front elevation;
- draw the end elevation:
- the body of the prism;
- the cut surface (hexagon and elliptical shape).
- hatch.
(d) TRUE SHAPE
- project lines perpendicular to the cut surface;
- draw reference line P – P parallel to the cutting plane;
- take measurements from the plan and transfer same to obtain the points of the true shape;
- draw the true shape;
- hatch.
The solution is shown below:
