Question 2 required candidate to:

  1. Sketch a sand bucket.
  2. State the use of a sand bucket.
  3. State the uses of the tailstock of a wood lathe.
  4. State the properties that are performed on the circular saw.
  5. State safety precautions to be observed when using the circular saw.

Observation

 

Majority of candidates were able to draw the sand bucket and state the safety precautions to be observed when using the circular saw, however some of the candidates did not answer the questions on wood lathe and circular saw properly.

Use of sand bucket in a wood machine shop:

The sand bucket is a type of fire equipment used in fighting fire in
case of a fire outbreak.

Uses of the tailstock of a wood lathe:
(1)     to support work piece when turning between centres;
(2)     to bore holes at the end of a cylindrical piece;
(3)     to permit the longer stock to be turned.

Operations that are performed on the circular saw:
(1)     rebating;
(2)     chamfering;
(3)     beveling;
(4)     tapering;
(5)     grooving;
(6)     trenching;
(7)     mitring;
(8)     cross-cutting;
(9)     ripping;
(10)   tenoning.
