CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES

 

  • The candidates’ weakness was mostly noticed in identifying the different types of insurance products available in the insurance market and how they are to be applied as regard their usefulness in the society.
  • Many of the candidates could not properly apply their knowledge of the principles of insurance to problem-solving in real life scenarios. They performed poorly in the question on case study as some of them could not apply insurance knowledge to answer case study questions.
  • Majority of candidates show weakness in some topical issues in basic insurance such as meanings and uses of Long term Agreement. Some of the candidates mistook Long Term Agreement for Long Term Contract as applied to Life Assurance Contracts which are two different things entirely.
  • Failure of the candidates to adhere to the rubrics as many of them only listed where  the questions required them to state or list and explain hence, they lost valuable marks.
  • The technical nature of the subject continue to be the main weakness of the candidates
  • Candidates are still having serious challenges in case study questions

SUGGESTED REMEDIES

 

  • The candidates should be encouraged to study standard and comprehensive texts as recommended by the Council in their preparation for the examination.
  • As panacea, the teaching on case study should be improved upon in addition to teachers having general knowledge of technical aspects of insurance, such as Employer’s liability Insurance Policy, Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy, Group Life Assurance Policy.

  • The candidates should be adequately expose to the subject syllabus with the help of qualified teachers and Insurance practitioners.
  • The Federal Ministry of Education should implore all Faculties of education in Nigerian Universities through National Universities Commission to introduce Business Education with major in Insurance.
  • Qualified insurance practitioners can be engaged by the school for special coaching on the subject on contract or ad hoc basis.
