Observation

 

Candidates’ performance in this question was commendable. Majority of the candidates attempted this question and those who attempted it did justice to the topic. On average, the performances of candidates were above average. Points candidates were to take note of are

THE TERM GOVERNMENT

Government is an institution established by the state manned by people vested with authority  to make, implement and adjudicate laws in the society.
Or
Government can be defined as machinery through which the will of the state is formulated, expressed, and attained for the common good of the society.

 

ROLES OF GOVERNMENT IN THE SOCIETY

  1. It makes laws.
  2. It maintains peace, law and order.
  3. It maintains the sovereignty of the country by defending her against external aggression and internal insurrection.
  4.  It caters for the welfare of the people by providing social amenities.
  5. It creates employment opportunities for citizens.
  6. It conducts external relations with other countries and international bodies.
  7. It creates enabling environment for economic activities and development.
