SPECIFICATIONS

FOUNDATION:                   675 x 225 concrete strip laid at a depth of 675
from ground level.

FLOOR:                                 Earth filling.
                                    Hardcore 300.
Concrete slab 150.
Mortar screed 25.

 

WALLS:                                All walls are 150 sandcrete hollow blocks with 12 mortar  
rendering on both sides.
BEAMS/LINTELS               150 x 225 reinforced concrete.

AND COLUMNS:                150 x 150 reinforced concrete.

 

DOORS:                                 D1 – 1800 x 2100 two paneled wooden door with 150 x 150
Hardwood timber frame;
                       
                                                D2 – 900 x 2100two paneled wooden door with 150 x 150
Hardwood timber frame;

WINDOWS:                          All windows are glazed aluminum casement type.
W1 – 1800 x 1200 (2-bays).
W2 – 900 x 600 (1-bays).

ROOF:                                   Double pitched timber roof with corrugated long span aluminium roofing sheets.

Observation

 

 To a scale of 1:50, draw the detailed section M – M of the building from the foundation tothe
roof.

Majority of candidates did well by

-           graphicallyrepresenting and identifying the timber roof members correctly;
-           showing the roof pitched to the specified degree of slope on drawing.

However, it was observed that some of them:
-           draw deep strip, wide strip and pad foundations instead of ordinary strip foundations specified;
-           could not show the ground floor elements (earth fill, hardcore fill, concrete floor slab, floor finish) correctly;
-           failed to hatch the walls in section;
-           showed other door types instead of panelled wooden door specified.
