FOUNDATION:                   675 x 225 concrete strip laid to a depth of 900
below the ground level.

FLOOR:                                 Earth filling.
                                    Hardcore 300.
Concrete slab 150.
Mortar screed 25.

WALLS:                                All walls are 450x225x 225 sandcrete hollow block walls.  
mortar rendering on both sides.

DOORS:                                 D1 – 1200 x 2100 glazed metal door.             
                                    D2 – 900 x 2100 wooden panelled door with 100 x 50 hardwood timber frame.
D3 – 750 x 2100 wooden panelled door with 100 x 50 hardwood timber frame.
WINDOWS:                          W1 – 1500 x 1200 (3-bays). glazed aluminium sliding type
W2 – 1200 x 1200 (2-bays). glazed aluminium sliding type
W3 – 750 x 600 (2 bays) glazed aluminium sliding type

BEAMS/LINTELS

Draw to a scale of 1:50,  the detailed section X – X of the building from the foundation to roof.

 

Most of the candidates performed well on the:
-           graphical representation of the strip foundation and the substructural walls in section;
-           identification of the timber roof truss members.

Hower, the following short comings were observed relative to candidates drawing:
-           inability to represents graphically, the solid ground elements;
-           failure to hatch the walls in section by using the appropriate coventional symbols.

The expected response to  question 1 is as given below:
