Biology Paper 3 (Practical) WASSCE (SC), 2022

Weakness and Remedies

The observed weaknesses of the candidates include:

  • poor spelling of technical terms and one-word answers;
  • not including the magnification of the diagram;
  • using wooly guidelines in labeling diagrams;
  • guidelines not touching the part labelled;
  • making diagrams without the correct specification;
  • making wrong diagrams;
  • not drawing cut surfaces with double lines;
  • inability to observe and report the experiment on food test;
  • inability to compare specimens with corresponding features;
  • using plural for a single label;
  • shading the diagram of the leg of a duck;
  • inability to draw and correctly label the longitudinal section of a maize grain.

            The following remedies were proffered to overcome the weaknesses:

  • students should be taught how to report experiments;
  • students should be made to observe specimens before answering questions;
  • students should be made to draw often in class, and be taught the basic skills of drawing;
  • students should learn to use rulers to rule guidelines for labels;
  • teachers should drill students on spellings so as to improve on their spelling of technical terms;
  • Chief Examiners’ Report should be made available to students and compulsory for teachers to read;
  • teachers should attend seminars and workshops often;
  • teachers should be encouraged to attend WAEC coordination and marking exercise.
