Question 1

1.Make the test piece shown on page 2, using the timber which has been planed to the following sizes (all dimensions are in millimetres):

one piece hardwood ― 220 x 50 x 30;
one piece hardwood ― 225 x 50 x 30;
one piece hardwood ― 225 x 40 x 30;
one piece hardwood ― 130 x 35 x 20.

Observation

Candidates were required to make a lapped dovetail joint. They were expected to mark out dovetail bevel is required to get the correct angle. Majority of the candidates did not follow the correct procedure and this led to the tearing or splitting of the joints.
