Observation

 

This question was the least attempted by candidates, majority of whom scored average marks. The question required candidates to describe what leatherettes are, state three elements that determines the choice of soling and explain any three properties of poromerics. Most candidates were able to define leatherettes but failed to state correctly the properties of poromerics so as to score higher marks. Candidates were expected to answer thus to score maximum marks:

(a)     - Leatherettes are synthetic materials having some features and properties of natural        leather.
- Leatherettes are coated fabric that looks like leather.

(b)(i)    Aesthetics.
(ii)    Physical characteristics.
(iii)  Availability.
(iv)   Price.

  1.   Target group – adults, children, the handicapped.

 

(c)(i)    They have tensile strength i.e. they can stretch without being easily damaged.
(ii)    They are not porous.
(iii)   They cannot be moistened and modeled easily.
(iv)   They are water resistant.
(v)    They are not tear resistant.
(vi)   They are highly flammable i.e. they can catch fire easily.
