In this question, candidates were asked to write a letter to a sister abroad,
telling her about the state of their new apartment.
They were expected to mention that:

- etu o siri ka ebe ochie mma dika n’idi ocha, uzo idi mma dg.
Most of the candidates did not write up to the required number of words and
therefore scored poorly.
QUESTION 1B
Candidates were requested to write a letter to an editor-in-chief of a
newspaper complaining of the high rates of road accident today and its
curbing measures.
The expected points were:

- inu oke mmanya
ii. ihe ndi a ga-eme iji belata ihe mberede okporouzo dika:

Few candidates attempted this question. Most of them did not apply the appropriate formalities of a formal letter and also they could not give enough points.

Candidates were requested to write about the guest house in their town.
They were to mention:

Those that answered it justified their answers but did not write much on the topic, therefore they performed poorly.
QUESTION 1D
Candidates were to write a conversation between two friends that sat for WAEC in a distant town.
The expected points were:
- ekele njuritaase

irutu aka otu ha siri ga obodo ahu tere aka

otu nsogbu siri daputa na hool.
Few candidates answered the question and gave the required points. However, a few did not write it in a dialogue form and therefore scored low marks.
QUESTION 1E
In this question, candidates were given a proverb and were asked to illustrate the meaning of the proverb with the use of one long or two short stories.
The proverb means that a person that has a bad child is equal to a childless person.
Candidates who attempted this essay failed to explain the meaning of the proverb before giving the illustration.
