Analyse any five changes brought by Islam into Hausa land up to 1800.

This was a very popular question among the candidates.  Although some derailed by attributing the changes to the effects of the jihad of Usman dan Fodio, quite a few number were able to give relevant answers and scored high marks.  Some of the points they analysed included:

1. Arabic education was introduced;
2. many people in the states began to adopt Muslim names and titles;
3. rulers in various states began to employ Muslim scholars in the government as secretaries and advisors who introduced new ideas of governance;
4. the religion saw the replacement of traditional judges in the states’ judiciary by the “Qadis” or Muslim magistrates;
5. it led to pilgrimage to Mecca by some of the people;
6. use of Arabic language and literature, etc.
