The candidates were unable to:
- identify specimens A (Tilapia) and B (Clarias);
- mention the observable features of specimen A (Clarias);
- mention the common natural foods that specimen B (Clarias) feeds on in a fish pond;
- state the functions of specimen J (Cow dung) in a fish pond;
- mention the differences between specimens J (Cow dung) and K (Urea);
- give the methods of applying specimens J(Cow dung) and K(Urea)
- give the similarities between specimens L (Smoked fish) and M (Canned fish);
- state the differences in the production methods of specimens L (Smoked fish) and M (Canned fish);
- draw and label specimen R (Fishing trap); and
- state the disadvantages of using specimens Q (Scoop net), R (Fishing trap) and S (Drag Net).
- Consequent on the weaknesses observed from the candidates’ scripts, the Chief Examiners recommended as follow:
- Only competent graduates of Fisheries should be saddled with the responsibility of teaching the subject in Senior Secondary Schools;
- Fisheries should be taught as a practical oriented subject through laboratory activities, field trips,excursions etc; and
- Adequate facilities and textbooks on Fisheries should be made available to enhance the teaching – learning of Fisheries in Senior Secondary Schools.
