OBSERVATION

Most candidates did well in this question.  They were able to:

  1. state the methods used in domestic electrical wiring;
  2. list the standard colour codes for the given electrical wires;
  3. state the purposes for applying paints to a wall surface;
  4. sketch the given wall finishes.

(a) Two basic methods used in domestic electrical wiring include:

  1. surface wiring (pvc sheathing)
  2. conduit wiring (metal or pvc tube)
  3. surface trunking

(b) Standard colour codes

(i) red or brown -   live
(ii) black o blue   -   neutral
(iii) green or yellow-green-earth

(c) Purposes of applying paint to a wall surface are:

  • improve the appearance of structure underneath
  • to preserve the surface
  • Hygienic purposes.
