Candidates' weakness

One of the candidates’ undoing was their inability to write dates in letter-writing i.e. trying to translate the date into Yoruba which led them into confusion. The Arabic spelling of dates is allowed e.g. 25-15-2007.

It was also observed that candidates’ response to the questions especially the literature aspect were vague buttressing the fact that the selected text were not studied by the candidates.

Finally the use of the technical terms as contained in the metalanguage was relegated to the background. Even the few candidates who made use of the 39 terms used them wrongly e.g. oluko (teacher) used in place of akekoo (student) and idana (dowry payment) instead of ana sise (serving in-laws).
Teachers are implored to encourage the students in the use of Yoruba metalanguage both in the school or at home.
