Few candidates were able to state the specific use of each of the given:
-grades of abrasive;
-West African timbers.
However, many candidates were unable to sketch the cross-section of a log and label the given parts correctly.

(b) Uses of Abrasives
(i)Coarse: First abrasive grade used for removing plane marks on timber surface.
(ii)Medium: Intermediate abrasive grade used to smoothen the rough surface left behind when coarse abrasives are used on timber surface.
(iii)Fine: This abrasive grade is used preparatory to application of final finishes on timber surface Or
This is the final abrasive used before application of final finishes on timber.

(i)Iroko:
-Workbench tops
-Laboratory fittings
-Boat building
-Shop fittings
-Agricultural implements
-Tool handles
-Railway sleepers.
(ii)Obeche:
-Core of plywood
-Cheap household furniture
-Formwork in building construction
-Temporary work/structures.
-Packaging cases/boxes.
