(a) Illustrate with a sketch, each of the following
(i)Counter bore;
(ii)Pocket screwing.

(b)State three advantages of contact adhesive over polyvinyl acetate (PVA) adhesive.

(c)(i) State four reasons for applying polish to wood surfaces
(ii) State two methods used in applying polish.

Observation

Most candidates were able to state:
-reasons for applying polish to wood surfaces;
-methods used in applying polish.

However, questions on counter bore, pocket screwing and advantages of contact adhesive over polyvinyl acetate (PV A) adhesive were poorly answered by many candidates.
(a) Two sketches

(b)Advantages of contact adhesive over PVA
-Does not need cramps for bonding surface.
-Allows wide surfaces to be glued
-Dries quickly
-Gives instant bonding.
(c )(i)Reasons for applying polish to wood surfaces
-To improve the natural beauty of the wood (for aesthetic reasons)
-To protect the surface against dirt .
-To protect the surface against weathering
-To protect the surface from moisture penetration ,
-To reduce the risk of insect attack
-To make the surface durable.
(ii) Methods used in applying polish.
-Spraying.
-Hand polishing (brush, cloth and dolly).
