Question 1

(a)State four safety precautions guiding the use of a portable power drill.
(b)(i)Sketch a bevelled edge chisel.
(ii)Label four parts of the chisel.
(c)State the use of a bevelled edge chisel.
(d)Name three tools used in marking out a mortice and tendon joint.

Observation

Candidates were able to:
-state the safety precautions correctly;
-draw the bevelled edge chisel and label its parts.
-state the use of the bevelled edge chisel.
-name tools used in marking out a mortice and tendon joint.

However, the proportionality of the parts of the bevelled edge presented by the candidates was poor.

The expected response to the question is as given below: (a) Safety Precautions
-Make sure the bit is tightly secured to the chuck.
-check the current rating of the tool.
-Check the plug for cracks or loose pins.
-Do not drag the cable on the ground.
-Do not apply too much pressure on the tool.
-feed the tool slowly.
(b)

(i)Sketch of bevelled edge chisel

(c)Use of Bevelled Edge Chisel
-It is used for general paring purposes
-For cleaning corners and bottom of trenches
(d) Tools used for marking-out Mortice and Tendon joint
-Mortice gauge
-Try square Pencil
