Candidates were required to make a lapped dovetail joint. They were expected to mark out dovetails with the correct bevels. Dovetail marker or sliding bevel is required to get the correct angle. Majority of the candidates did not follow the procedure and this led to the tearing or splitting of the joints. Each candidates' final work piece was to have: tail ¬(2 pitches, 2 sides, 1 straight side, 2 shoulders) and socket (2 sides, 1 end, 1 bottom and fitness of joint) .
