Candidates' performance was fair. Their answers carried scanty facts because most of them gave only one definition of each topic. Candidates were expected to write about all they knew concerning the topics.
Facts neglected by the candidates include:
(a) Monochromatic colour:
- one colour in varied values and intensities;
- opposite of poly chromatic colour;
- variations are made to monochromatic colour by adding black or white to make tint and shade;
- monochromatic colour is used in one colour paintings or drawings;
- description of colour in work whereby one hue perhaps with variation of value and intensity predominate.
(b) Portrait:
- a drawing, painting, photography or sculpture of a person, especially the face alone;
- the capture of the likeness of an individual either the face,
- the figure to the waist or the whole figure.
(c) Fresco:
- a Painting technique whereby colour is applied to a plaster ground
- a picture painted on a wall or ceiling before the plaster is dry;
- there are two types of frescoes; true fresco (buon) and dry fresco (frescosecco ).
in true fresco, colours are applied before the plaster dries and thus bond with the surface. And in dry fresco, colours are applied to dry plaster.
(d) Mural:
- painting on a wall;
- large scale wall decoration;
- medium includes oil, gouche, emulsion mosaic etc.
(e) Sketch:
- a rough outlined drawing or painting often as experiment for making a regular picture.
- a trial run for the full scale work;
- a quick drawing intended for a more substantial drawing.
