Compare free-standing sculpture and relief sculpture.

OBSERVATION

This is an alternative question number one. The question was popular among the candidates as many of them attempted it. Majority of the candidates were able to answer the question well.
They rightly identified the following points:
- A free standing sculpture can be seen from all side A free-standing sculpture is in-the-round;
- A free-standing sculpture is three dimensional;
- A relief sculpture is not free standing; it projects from a background and approximates to a condition of painting;
- Relief sculptures have several names to indicate the varying depth of projection, low or bas-relief which is scarcely more than scratche;
- High relief which is almost detached from the ground;
- Relief sculpture are siinil.ar to two dimensional works, but free standing sculpture have fronts, backs, sides and tops; viewers can move round them.
