The following weaknesses were observed in candidates scripts.

- poor mastery of the keyboard, which showed in the typed letters
- failure to follow instructions;
- typographical errors;
- poor correction of errors technique;
- wrong spacing between words;
- incomplete working; e.g. omission of words/lines.

SUGGESTED REMEDIES

-In order to overcome the above weaknesses, the following should be well considered.

- Sufficient time should be allocated to typewriting in schools time-tables so that candidates can practise and drill on it.
- Candidates must read questions and follow instructions
- Teachers should give enough drills and practice exercise to students to prepare them well for the examination.
- Errors must be properly corrected so that no traces of corrected items could be seen, and no “treeing” observed when taken carbon copies.
- Candidates should make sure that their machine are in good working condition and must have used them for some time before using them for the examination.
- Care should be taken when typing to avoid omission of lines.
