The standard of the paper was good. The questions were well structured and of good quality. The paper compared well with those of the previous years in term of the concepts tested and skills measured. The paper tested the candidates in the following areas:
- recall of the definition of terms and statements of the laws
- understanding of the fundamental theories of Physics
- comprehension of the relationship between physical quantities;
- description of experimental procedure;
- handling of simple numerical problems.
The questions were well framed in simple language. The rubrics were unambiguous. The marking schemes were quite clear and detailed.
The candidates recorded a raw mean score of 16 out of 60 marks and a standard deviation of 10.34 as against a raw mean score of 17 and a standard deviation of 10.00 in November/December 2006. A total of 144880 sat for the examination as against 171,124 in 2006 representing a decrease.
