The performance in this paper was generally poor. There were no particular strengths exhibited by the candidates. However, a good proportion of the candidates were able to correctly:

(1)determine the total time of flight of a projectile;

(2)explain thermionic emission;

(3)determine tensile stress, tensile strain and yield point;

(4)state examples to illustrate the effects of surface tension;

(5)explain the function of a step-down transformer;

(6)state the uses and hazards of X-rays.
