The physics papers 1A and IB compared favourably with eachother. They also compared well with those of previous years.
The papers tested similar skills as in the previous years. The papers tested the candidates’ ability to:
(1)set up simple experiments;
(2)carry out the experimental procedure;
(3)collect and analyze data
(4 make deductions from the analysis;
(5)show understanding of the theories behind the experiments;
The questions were within the scope of the examination syllabus. They were also set in simple and comprehensible language to ease understanding. The rubrics were also clear and direct to enable the candidates understand the expectation of the examiner on them.
The marking scheme was quite adequate and it allowed enough tolerance to compensate for the variations in the expected responses of the candidates.
The performance of the candidates was quite similar to those of the same examination in 2006. The candidates recorded a raw mean score of 25 and a standard deviation of 11.14 as against a raw mean of 25 and standard deviation of 11.06 in May/June 2006 WASSCE. A total of 429,208 candidates entered for the paper as against the 388,965 that entered for the paper in May/June 2006.
