Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance in every part was poor

The expected answers were as follows:. .
(a) .Objectives of physical education in ancient Athens:
- Development of the body
- Aesthetic value
- Living a fuller and vigorous life - Provides opportunity for relaxation
(b) Factors that contributed to the collapse of the ancient Olympic Games:
- The religious aspect attached to the games declined.
- The games became secularized.
- The moral standards of the competition declined as cases of bribery and corruption became rampant.
- The games became internationalized/other nationalities were admitted/named.
. - - The 'Sacred Truce" which sustained the games were violated
- The Olympic Games village at Elis was destroyed during the Peloponnesian war
- It was seen as pagan festival.
(c) Problems facing the Olympic movement
- Rules arid regulations are considered too rigid/method of enforcing. the rules and regulations are often criticized
- The cost of hosting the games is becoming prohibitive/expensive.
- Politics has made in-road into the games as nationalists use the games to enlist sympathy and support
- Professionalism and commercialism have continued to dismantle the games bit by bit/gradually.
