(a) In a tabular form, state two differences between the processes of breathing in and breathing out:

Observation

This question was fairly attempted by candidates. Candidates could name the groups of bones that make up the vertebral column and name the end product of protein digestion in question 9(b) and (c)
In question 9(a), majority of the candidates were unable to tabulate the differences between the processes of breathing in.and breathing out.

Breathing in                                                                Breathing out
Diaphragm muscle                                                     Diaphragm relaxes
Contracts or flattens                                                and become dome shaped

Intercostals muscles contract                                 Intercostal muscles relax

Rib cage pulled upwards                                          Ribs move downward
