This question was not popular with candidates. In question 9(a)(ii), majority of the candidates could list apparatus used n gymnastics. However, in question 9(a)(i) and (iii), most of the candidates could not explain the term spotting in gymnastics and describe the procedure for performing cartwheel in gymnastics.

Expectation of the term spotting in gymnastics:
It is standing by in readiness to ensure safety of a performer.
Procedure for performing cartwheel in gymnastics:
- procedure for performing to the left side;
- start with feet comfortably apart;
- arms are stretched sideways at shoulder level;
- left palm faces down and the right faces up;
- place the left hand on the ground;
- push off on the left foot and place the right hand on the ground;
- swing the legs over the head;
- land on the right foot followed by the left;
- both hands and feet are placed along an imaginary straight line.
N.B: For performing to the right the procedure is vice versa
In question 9(b), most of the candidates could state the benefits that can be derived from performing gymnastics activities. In question 9( c )(i), candidates could name officials needed in a gymnastics competition.
However, most of the candidates could not state the faults that can be committed when performing headstand in gymnastics as demanded in question 9(c)(ii).
The expected answers include:
Faults that can be committed when performing headstand in gymnastic
- unequal distance between the hands and forehead;
- forehead placed too near the hands;
- hurried walking of the legs to the hands;
- back not arched;
- legs wide apart/legs not put together;
- toes not pointing upwards.
