This question was not popular with the candidates. Few candidates that attempted it were able to state ways in which long jump and triple jump are similar.
However, in question 3(a) and (b), majority of the candidates were unable to state instances when a failure is recorded in pole vault event and explain how ties are resolved in high jump and discus events in athletics.
The expected answers include:
Instances when a failure is recorded in pole Vault events
- athlete knocks the bar off the supports/uprights;
- athlete leaves the ground for the purpose of making a vault and fails to clear the bar;
- athlete after leaving the ground, places his lower hand higher on the pole/climbing the pole;
- athlete touches with any part of the body/pole, the ground including landing are; without first clearing the bar;
- if he is called but does not make an attempt to jump.
Resolution of ties in:

- the athlete with the lowest number of jumps at the height at which ties occurs shall be awarded a higher place;
- if ties still remains, the athlete with the lowest total number of failures throughout the competition up to and including the height last cleared shall be awarded a higher place;
- if ties remain and it concerns the first place, the height is lowered or raised until' a winner is declared/emerges;
- if ties still remains, the athlete with lowest total number of jumps (whether successful or not) throughout the competition shall be awarded the higher place;
- if ties does not concern the first position, tie is allowed to remain and tying athletes share points.
Discuss
- the second best performance of the athletes tying shall decide the tie;.
- if tie remains and it concerns the first place, the tying athletes shall have such additional number of extra trials as is required to determine the winner;
- if tie remains and it does not concern the first position, tying athletes share points.
In question 3(d), most candidates were unable to describe the glide method of putting the shot. The expected answers include
Description of the glide method of putting the shot:
- putting stands in the circle near the edge of the rear half; .
- turns back to the landing area/sector;
- missile/shot is held at the root of fingers of the throwing hands against the neck
