(a) The sketch below shows an electric arc welding set-up.
(i)identify the parts labelled P, Q, X,Y and Z.
(ii)State the function of each of the parts P, X and Y.
(iii)State two safety precautions to be observed in gas welding.
The candidates were able to identify the labelled parts of the set-up. They were unable to give correct names of parts ‘P’ and ‘Q’ as return clamp for 'P’ and return cable for 'Q'
In 5 a(ii), the candidates could not state the exact function of 'P'. 'P’ is to complete the electrical circuit and not necessarily to clamp work to the table as stated by the candidates. Candidates were able to state two safety precautions to be observed in gas welding.
