The standard of the paper was within the academic level of the candidates and was of equivalent standard with those of previous years. The questions were unambiguous and straightforward and the marking scheme was quite detailed. However, there was no significant improvement in candidates' performance, when compared with those of previous years. Candidates' performance showed they lacked essential skills for literary appreciation and exhibited poor understanding of the recommended texts.
