Thomas More’s refusal to sign the Act of Succession to enable the king have his way opposed to the church leads to a conflict in the play. The conflict culminates in More’s trail on trumped up charges, his subsequent trial and murder.
Norfolk suggests that the jury retire to consider the evidence but is overruled by Cromwell who tells the Foreman to pronounce the sentence on More. This shows that the verdict predates the trail and More is aware that he has been doomed from the beginning.
Very few candidates attempted the question. Their performance was poor.
