Imagery is used effectively in the play to portray the major themes. The photographic studio established by styles is a theatre of confrontation between the oppressed blacks.
The cockroaches stand for the white oppressors, the insecticide applied on them in vain represents the palliative measures taken to rid South Africa of the white oppressors. Death symbolizes peace which some blacks seek as opposed to oppression.
Most of the candidates did not understand “imagery” hence, they could not answer the question correctly.
