Candidates' weakness

Candidates’ weaknesses were observed in the following areas:

1. Bad handwriting:Some candidates’ handwriting did not show that they completed six years in the secondary school. Most of the handwritings were so poor that the examiner found it very difficult to decipher what was written. This led to poor scoring. Schools are requested to make their candidates to spend more time to learn about writing legibly.

2. Poor organization of answers:Some candidates did not organize their answers well. Some started the answers in one page and moved over to finish in two or three pages ahead. This made scoring and calculation of scores difficult.

3. Poor Presentation:Some questions required the candidates to be organized in the presentation of their points and in the use of paragraphs/punctuations. This was not well done. Teachers should endeavour to teach the candidates how to organize their thoughts and points before writing (orderly presentation of materials).

4. Poor knowledge of the prescribed text:It was observed that some candidates had little knowledge of the prescribed texts. This should be taken seriously because basing their answers on guesswork will
not earn them any marks. Teachers should always insist that their students purchase and read all the prescribed texts to enhance their performance in the examinations.
