Question 1(a).
In this question,candidates were requested to write in a dialogue form,
a conversation between Ikenna and Uchenna on the difficulties that
students encounter in seeking admission into the University.
Those candidates that answered this question gave points like:
- Inweta Kreedit ise dika a choro na WAEC maobu NECO na-ara ahu.
- N’ihi enweghi ohere n’ebe obibi nakwa Klaasi, ndi Ochichi Mahadum anaghi ewe otutu mmadu.
- Ihe isi ike na-emekwa ka ufodu nne na nna ghara inwe ike ikwuru umu ha ugwoakwukwo na Mahadum.
Most of the candidates did not write the essay in a dialogue form and therefore failed the question.
Question 1(b).
In this question, candidates were given a proverb and were asked to illustrate the meaning of the proverb with the use of one long or two short stories. Not many candidates answered this question. Those candidates who attempted this question, did not explain the meaning of the proverb, but simply went into the story to illustrate it.
Regrettably, most of these candidates could not give apt illustrations so they scored poorly here.
Question 1(c).
Here, candidates were required to write on a visit at a soft drink manufacturing company with other students.
Most candidates attempted the question because it was a narrative essay and scored well.
They mentioned points like:
- Ubochi na ebe anyi gara njem a.
- Nkwado di icheiche anyi mere maka njem a.
- Etu ndi ulooru a siri nabata anyi.
- Ndughari edughariri anyi n’ulooru ahu.
Question 1(d).
This question required the candidates to write an argumentative essay on ‘watching television has an adverse effect on the youth of today’.
Many candidates attempted this question and those that proposed on the topic, gave points like:
- Ufodu efe a na-eyi na televishon na-abu ndi a na-eghewe ahu oghe n’uzo ekwesighi ekwesi.
- Na televishon ka ha na-ahu ndi na-amicha onu na ndi na-akwa iko.
- Ha na-amuta igba ajo egwu na televishon .
On the other hand, those candidates that opposed, gave points like:
- A na-enweta ihe mmuta di icheiche dika agumakwukwo sayensi na nkanuzu.
- Na televishon ka e si agbasa ufodu ozi nke na-abara ndi ntorobia uru.
- E si na ya amata ihe na-eme n’akuku uwa dum.
Many of the candidates gave the required points and scored high marks.
Question 1(e).
This question requested candidates to write a letter to a brother living abroad informing him that you accept his proposal to come and study in a university abroad.
This is an informal letter and therefore should have only the sender’s address. The opening formalities of an informal letter, like the usual greeting and asking after some members of the family, could be employed. Some of the expected points were:
- Ihe i ga-eji choo igu akwukwo n’ala Bekee
- Ngwankuzi di otutu n’ala Bekee karia n’ala anyi
- Ohere igu akwukwo ma na-aru oru di n’ala Bekee
- Ngwaomumu ihe dika komputa juputara n’ala Bekee karia ebe a.
Many candidates answered this question correctly and scored high marks.
