(a)(i)Differentiate between fixtures and furniture.
(ii) List two examples each of fixtures and furniture.

Observation

Part(a) demanded the candidates to differentiate between fixtures and furniture in the home, one is moveable while the other is not. There was a mix up by some candidates, they only got the examples right. Part (b) which was on the uses of carpets was well attempted by the candidates.

The expected answers are:

(a)(i)Difference between fixtures and furniture Fixtures are structures that are fixed permanently in a room
                         While
Furniture are movable structures/articles such as chairs, tables, beds, room dividers.

(ii)List of Fixtures and Furniture

Fixtures- Picture rails, curtain boards (pelmet) ceiling fans, bath tubs, wall racks, air conditioners, lamp holders, book shelves, sinks etc.

Furniture - Cupboard, coffee or centre table, side stools, bed, settee, dinning table etc.

(b)Uses of carpets - They

-help to unify the entire room by forming a background for all decorations of the interior such as furniture.
-add warmth and comfort to a room. reduce noise (e.g. from shoes).
-help to set the mood for the whole room.
-can blend the different colours used in decorating the room.
-can add beauty to the room.
