Observation

Generally question 1 was well answered by majority of the candidates. Questions 1 (a) and (b) were well tackled while candidates could not differentiate between flexible and rigid standards as required in part (c) of the question for example they were using rigid to explain rigid that is rigid, standard is very rigid.

The candidates are expected to answer the question as follows:

(a)Patterns of time use

(i)Work time - time spent on activities that produce measurable income and benefit for oneself and others e.g. employment time, home-¬related work time and volunteer work time.

Note: Key words to look for are underlined

(ii)Non-work time - time spent on activities that do not produce income but satisfaction to the person e.g. sleep time, free time and leisure time.

(b)Definition of goals and values

(i)Goals are things you want to work towards or achieve in life.
They are ends-in-view, they are what you desire and strive to accomplish.

(ii)Values are worth that is attached to things and situations or what we consider very important/what we cherish in life/what governs our thoughts and actions/ measure of worth.

(c)Difference between flexible and rigid standard.
Flexible standard - standards that allow people to adjust their behaviour to changes that may occur.
Rigid Standard - standards imposed upon the family by an outside group/force
