The (a) part was popular with candidates from the northern part of the country but difficult for those from the southern part who had very limited knowledge of the taxes collected in Hausaland like zakat on income, Jangali, Gaisua, etc.
The (b) part demanded a thorough knowledge of the impact or effects of the spread of Islam in Hausaland. Although many candidates articulated their points and scored high marks, some dwelt on the effect of Sharia and hence scored low marks.
Some of the points they were expected to mention included:

spread of Arabic. culture;
(ii) habit of keeping wives under purdah;
(iii) cerebration of Muslim festivals;
(iv) use of Islamic laws in administration;
(v) pilgrimage to Mecca, etc.
