This was a popular question and was answered by many candidates. However,
most of them missed out the essential factors responsible for the rise of the Benin Kingdom but dwelt extensively on the role of the rulers. This made them to score low marks.
They were expected to identify the following points in order to score high marks:
(i) availability of fertile soil;
(ii) strategic location of the kingdom;
(iii) the role of able rulers e.g. Ewuare;
(iv) the existence of a powerful army;
(v) trade;
(vi) the respect accorded to the Oba made him a rallying point in the state.
