Question 9

(a)Identify the Protectorates in Nlg1eria before the Amalgamation of 1914.
(b)Describe four' effects of the Amalgamation on Nigeria.

Observation

This was another straightforward and very popular question. Ail most, the candidates were able to mention Southern Pr6tectbrate of Nigeria and Protectorate of Northern Nigeria In the 'a' part of the question.
However, candidates were unable to score high marks in this question because they demonstrated limited knowledge of the requirements, of the 'b' part.

Some of the point candidates failed to describe Include the following:
(I)Nigeria as a geo-political entity came into being;
(ii)It Increased the process of unifying the various Nigerian peoples;
(ill)Nigerians enjoyed common service e.g. transport;
(IV)The British system of administration was Introduced by Nigeria;
(v)It pared way for North,/South dichotomy which still plagues the Nigerian society till today.
