(a) State two first aid treatments of each of the following conditions;
(i) wounds;
(ii) bleeding from a cut in the limbs;
(iii) burns;
(iv) electric shock;
(v) snake bite; [10 marks]

(b) Outline the benefits of exercise to the human body. [10 marks]

OBSERVATION

This question was popular and many candidates who attempted it performed very well especially in question 5(a). Several candidates were ignorant of the benefits of exercise to the human body required in question 5(b).
The expected answers were:

- Keeps heart and circulatory system in good condition/prevent card/ovascular diseases/named e.g. hypertension, stroke, heart failure;
- Helps weight loss/removes excess fatty substances/cholesterol from the blood/prevents arteriosclerosis/obesity;
- Improves muscle tone;
- Expands the lungs;
- Makes us look fit and healthy/good body shape/posture;
- Helps to develop one’s personality;
- Promotes recreation/relaxation;
- Releases tension/fatigue;
- Makes the organs of the body e.g. kidney/brain/liver to function efficiently;
- Facilitates the labour process during delivery in a pregnant woman.
