This question was not very popular with candidates although, most candidate that attempted the question did well in the 'a' part. They were able to define centralization clearly using varied ideas that were acceptable. Those that defined centralization as the concentration of the whole authority of government power in the hands of the government at the centre were awarded their full marks.
However, the ‘b' part of1he question. proved a little bit tough to the candidates.
Despite their accurate definition of centra1ization, they deviated in the 'b' part and discussed
conditions necessary for a unitary system of government.
This robbed them of a lot of marks. The overall performance of candidate in the question was average. Candidates were expected to outline some of the following features of centralizatio
(1)Citizens owe allegiance to only one authority;
(2)There is a strong central authority;
(3)The is one recognized authority;
(4)Authority flows from top to bottom
(5)It permits the usage of delegated legislation; etc.
