|
(a)What is power?
(b)Identify any five sources of political power.

| _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ |
|
This was a very popular and direct question. Most of the candidates attempted the question very well as they correctly defined power as 'the ability to control the behaviour of others by a person or group of persons who possess instrument of coercion'. Candidates also attempted the 'b' part of the question well and they were able to identify the five sources of political power demanded by the question. However, candidates could have scored very high marks in this question if not for their mere mentioning of points. Very few candidates made extra efforts to develop their points. Better still the candidates' overall performance in the question was above average. Some of the sources of political power candidates listed in their answers included:
(1)The constitution/law;
(2)The electorate (the people);
(3)Force (coup d'etat);
(4)Economic might/wealth;
(5)Technological strength; etc.
