The question was not popular with the candidates as many of them avoided it. The few candidates that attempted the question were generally handicapped over the features of Nigeria's foreign policy. They could not give correct four points required in the 'a' part for high marks. Few other candidates managed to mention the two points required in ‘b' but scantily explained them e.g. relying on the positions of the constitution, ideological stand of the president and his party, input of the Academia to the presidency, etc. All these pitfalls made the overall performance in the question to fall below average. Some of the. features expected from candidates included:
(1)Total commitment to national interests;
(2)Defence of Nigeria's sovereignty and territorial integrity;
(3)Promotion of international peace and security;
(4)Non-alignment with any of the powerful nations;
(5)Exchange of ambassadors and diplomats, ete.
