This was a very popular question. The performance was just fair. Many of the candidates mixed up land and sea breezes and some could not answer the question on frontal rainfa11 well. The expected answers for question 5b are:
- Land and sea breezes are caused as a result of the different rates of heating and cooling of the land and sea
- the land heats more rapidly than the Sea during the day and thus the land attracts wind from the Sea (sea breezes)
- during the night the land cools more rapidly than the sea thus attracting winds from the land
- sea breeze blows during the day towards the land
- land breeze blows during the night towards the sea
- Sea breeze is generally stronger in the tropics than in the Temperate Regions.
