(b) Describe the steps you will follow to carry out a survey of a zoological garden using a prismatic compass.

Observation

This question was very unpopular with the candidates and he few who attempted it performed poorly. Much attention should be paid to survey work in schools. The expected answers are
(a)(i) - Chain surveying
-  Compass traversing                
-  Plane-table surveying
- Theodolite surveying
- Aerial surveying.

(b)  Steps for carrying out Compass Travers of a Zoological Garden
- Reconnaissance survey (Pre-visit to the field before actual survey is  done)
- Dividing the field into triangles and setting up stations at the corners of  the field
- Taking bearings
- Linear measurements along forward and backward bearings
- Taking offsets from important object using cross staff or tape
-  Recording all measurements, offsets, bearings and other  observations neatly in a notebook
-  Deciding on appropriate scale and plotting all the measurements and  observations
